"Where ever you are, be the soul of that place" ~Rumi
If that place happens to be Morrison Springs, Florida just up from Hwy 30A, then it will take something, or someone pretty special to
become the soul of this place. My dear friends Kim and Scott Collins aka, The Smoking Flowers, a magical musical duo from Nashville, just happen to fit this portrayal.
Inspiration comes infrequently for me these days, so when I can get to Morrison Springs, take my camera under the fantasy world of cypress roots, moss, turltes, and tourquoise water combine it with artists that are fearless, alluring, graceful and full of spirit ...indeed alchemy pays a visit. With the annual 30A Songwriters Festival upon us, I wanted to introduce to you a couple that we consider locals- when they visit.. and you can't miss this weekend.
We shot these images last summer when they were rolling through town and we were on our way to Alaqua Animal Refuge to get Scott's Hunk and Hound photo for our 2015 calendar to benefit the Refuge. ( He was Mr December and is gonna kill me for mentioning it!). My vision was to have Kim wearing a Nicole Paloma dreass under the water with a vintage accordion, (she actually plays the accordion among others), and make a piece for the 2015 30A Songwriters Festival. With her grace and beauty, Kim has inspired me to create a whole collection of musical underwater pieces and even though the festival is excited to have one of our gems of Kim.. they needed a ROCK N ROLL piece for one of the band stages at Pandoras. Please go by and check out the first underwater photography background in the 30A Songwriters Festival - Scott's version of The Clash "London Calling" as Paul Simonon smashing his bass.
You can find out more information about this artistic duo on their website www.TheSmokingFlowers.com. ...or just come out this weekend and meet them !
The 30A Songwriters Festival 2014
I'm just sharing some shots I grabbed at this years songwriters festival on 30A. The locations are in Pandoras, Grayton Bar & Grill, Grayton Beach, FL. Seaside's Bud & Alleys- at the "Hang Over Hoot"; and Whiskey Bravo, Seagrove Beach, FL. I kept photographing the same people over and over- I always find it more interesting to shoot less folks, more. I am a bit biased because my husband, Mike Whitty, "South Walton's first Performer of the Year" by Visit South Walton Tourist Development and Cultural Arts Alliance was playing with his band Courtyard Saints -so they took most of my focus ;) and even rocked a little out of focus!
Artists are listed below
Mike Whitty and The Courtyard Saints with Brad Shankwiler, Michah Hulscher, Trey McClemore
Mary Gauthier, Kim Richey, Jeff Black, David Olney, Sergio Webb
Max Gomez, Angel Snow, Hayes Carl, Mamms Blue Dress, Amy LaVere, The Wildlife Specials
A truly beautiful ending to my summer shooting on Scenic Highway 30A was photographing a beautiful young couple expecting their first child. It's not often that I encounter a hapai (pregnant in Hawaiin) woman with so much confedence with their changing body in the last month of pregnancy. I think she had the baby 2 weeks later !! With these genes, their little one would certainly steal the photo show, for he is an angel to be admired with his beauty. I encourage these young parents to stay as in love as they are in these images and their son will grow up with all the confidence needed to do what ever he so desires. Locations were Grayt Coffee House, Grayton Beach, FL. Stalworth Lake, Blue Mountain Beach, FL. Cypress Dunes infinity pool overlooking Topsail Beach State Park for the underwater photography, Santa Rosa Beach, FL.
The Sea is a power that can change everything. It can carry you anywhere, or throw you against the rocks. People come to South Walton Beaches for the tidal shift of thinking, expressing and creating that the beauty found in the Gulf of Mexico offers.
Decedance, free thinking, traditions and new philosophies all dance together from Rosemary Beach to Seaside, Watercolor and one of my favorite's Grayton Beach. The expression of photography joined with inspiration from Yoga and Dance come together in my latest work.
The colletion will be on display tonight and through June at La Vie Est Belle, Seaside, Florida. Wendy Mignot of La Vie Est Belle and Laura Baily of The Sudio Seaside have joined together to create a new line of jewelry inspired by Yoga and Expression :The One Eye Love Jewelry Designs Art Opening is Friday, June 7, 5-9pm and runs through July.
